The sky's the limit for young athletes in Hertfordshire as they are given a helping hand from Hertfordshire County Council with a donation of £5,000 to support them through the elite athlete support programme.
The programme currently supports 23 young athletes in the county who have demonstrated sporting talent, potential and a will to succeed in their chosen sport. It was set up as part of the 'Hertfordshire is Ready For Winners' partnership and is one of its legacy aspirations in support of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Each athlete supported through the programme will be given nutritional advice, physiotherapy assessments, individual and group training sessions, performance lifestyle advice and free membership to the Hertfordshire Sports Village.
Hertfordshire County Council chairman Cllr Nigel Brook went along to the University of Hertfordshire's Sports Village to meet two of the athletes who are supported through the scheme, Amy Kee and Tom Lewis, along with Nick Brooking, director of sport at the University of Hertfordshire, and John Fuller, Herts manager for the 2012 Games.
